UN to Open Probe into Death of Palestinian

GENEVA – UN Officials today have announced that Israel’s internal probe into the death of a Palestinian man have been insufficient. U.N. human rights chief Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein called Tuesday for an independent and impartial investigation. He said that facts that he has obtained show that excessive force was used against 29-year-old Ibrahim Abu Thraya, an amputee from the 2008 war, he lost his legs in an Israeli airstrike during a 2008 war between Israel and Hamas. Thraya was killed last Friday during violent demonstrations held by Palestinians in Gaza.

Israel’s military yesterday said no fire was targeted at Thraya and it was impossible to determine the cause of death. The investigation cleared Israeli troops of wrongdoing, saying it found “no moral or professional failures” in the incident.

UN office spokesman Rupert Colville said the “very quick internal army investigation” was insufficient.

Honestreporting.com notes that Hamas has refused to release autopsy report making it impossible to determine the cause of death.

While death is always tragic, the Palestinian terrorists have made a sport of staging deaths to garner media and international sympathy for their cause. Snopes demonstrates some of their fraud, which reminds us to remember the international outcry following the picture of Muhammad al-Durrah as well.
