Cloned Dog In China; Not Showing Signs Of Disease Yet

China- Scientists have announced that they have successfully cloned a puppy – and are now waiting for him to get sick. The scientists purposefully cloned Longlong, a beagle with an edited genome so that the effects of atherosclerosis could be studied, and the information gained may be used to battle the disease in humans.

Humans and dogs share a remarkable number of genetic diseases, approximately 400 out of 900 genetic diseases in dogs closely match those found in humans.

Atherosclerosis, a heart disease, affects approximately 15.8 million Americans and is a leading cause of mortality.

Longlong, now six month sold has not shown any symptoms of the disorder yet. Animal rights advocates from PETA decried the gene-editing experiment and say Sinogene’s research is “unethical.”
